I am struck by the extreme ugliness and beauty of the human race. On our way to Animal Kingdom today, I was reading the Sunday paper. One of the articles was about a 14-year old juvenile who was sentenced to life in prison. With the impending changes in the FL laws, he may be released. But it's 2 decades later and he has spent most of his time in solitary confinement. His treatment was so inhumane, I was unable to read the entire article. i literally wept. We treat terrorists and man-eating dogs better than this person was treated in prison. He has had NO visitors and very little human interaction in 20 years. And now we're going to just let him "out". Is this considered "humane" treatment?
Several hours later, I was watching The Lion King show. It's a 20-minute, Broadway quality production with incredible costuming, music, and talent. At one point, a dancer dressed as a bird "flew" through the air. She had the grace and elegence of a bird freely flying around. Breathtaking. Beautiful.
God, forgive us for our inhumanity. And thank you for the beauty of life all around us.
